Wellington: City Hotels and Accommodation

Central Wellington is brimming with hotels, standing just 8 km / 5 miles to the north-west of Wellington International Airport (WLG). Hotels in the city of Wellington tend to be slightly more expensive than other nearby areas, although the standard is excellent - however, inner-city parking can be problematic. Accommodation is scattered around the following areas of the city.

City Centre
The heart of Wellington lies nearby the city's waterfront, with a range of quality hotels within walking distance of Lambton Quay. Many of Wellington's most famous landmarks and cultural attractions reside in this district, along with an array of accommodation, including guest houses and budget hostels. Highlights in the city centre include the Town Hall, the City Art Gallery, the nightclubs around Courtenay Place and the spacious Civic Square.

Cuba Street
An exciting and lively part of Wellington, Cuba Street is the place to be seen and many upscale hotels reside in this neighbourhood. Known for its seasonal celebrations, accommodation in Cuba Street quickly fills up at the time of the Fringe Festival, which always attracts large crowds to the city.

One of the most fashionable areas of Wellington, the waterfront is home to a number of sightseeing opportunities, with hotels never far from the action. A variety of hotels and lodging options boast impressive views and are within walking distance of Lagoon Beach, cruises, parks, eateries, entertainment venues and the Wellington Maritime Museum.

Situated on the western side of central Wellington, Kelburn is one of the greenest parts of the city, containing a host of parks and landscaped gardens, including the popular Botanic Gardens. A range of accommodation can be found close to the spreading Victoria University campus, with cheap hotels and guest houses appealing to students, visiting families and tourists alike.
